Choosing An HVAC Contractor To Install A Furnace in Butler County or Greater Cincinnati? Here's What Should Be Done

choosing an hvac contractor, West Chester, OhioWhen you're getting a new furnace, one of the most important steps in the process involves choosing an HVAC contractor to help you find the right system. When you're interviewing contractors, use these guidelines to decide which contractor will provide the best advice and installation.

Ask about the process the contractor uses to size equipment
It's important for the contractor to use a Manual J calculation to arrive at the correct equipment size. Looking over your home briefly and going by the size of the current equipment is not an accurate sizing methodology. Manual J, however, takes into account many aspects of your home that may have changed since the existing furnace was installed. Improving insulation, upgrading windows, maturing landscaping and sealing air leaks all lower the heating load, affecting the size of furnace that you need.

Installing too large a system can lead to energy inefficiency, a shorter furnace life and more repairs over the life of the system, as systems that are too large turn on and off more frequently, driving up energy bills. Your home won't be as comfortable, either.

Does the company evaluate the existing ductwork?
The ducts are every bit as important as the furnace itself. When choosing an HVAC contractor, verify that he or she will use Manual D, a calculation used to assess the size of the ducts, once they've completed sizing your system with Manual J, ensuring the ducts can accommodate the new heating system.

Ask the contractor about rebates and incentive for installing high-efficiency equipment.
In an effort to reduce carbon emissions and lower energy demand, local utility companies and manufacturers often offer incentives for installing Energy Star-qualified  or high-efficiency equipment. A reputable contractor should know what's available in their service area to help offset the costs for homeowners.

Does the installation include an explanation of the warranty and maintenance requirements?
Warranties may depend on regular maintenance from a licensed contractor and routine filter changes.
