One of the Perks of Replacing Your Air Conditioner? A New Warranty

Replacing your air conditioner can be a pretty big decision, but often a necessary one. If you've had your air conditioner for 10 years or more, it might be time to invest in a new one—and one major benefit: a new warranty.
At this point in its life, your air conditioner has experienced a good amount of wear and tear. Parts may be deteriorating and, more importantly, if your previous warranty has expired, you're now putting yourself at risk for having to pay out of pocket to replace parts or have your unit serviced.
Why is a new warranty an important part of replacing your air conditioner? You'll be covered from defects and manufacturing issues with the unit, as well as any normal service that you may need to have performed. Warranties don't usually cover normal wear and tear or any corrosion, deterioration or neglect of the unit.
In addition, steer clear from having the unit repaired by a company that isn't covered under the warranty. Manufacturers will often provide repair services directly through their contracted repair companies, but they won't cover any unauthorized repairs and that may also void your warranty. A basic warranty will usually cover your air conditioning components for 5 to 10 years, though it varies by manufacturer and system.
An extended warranty goes above and beyond the call of duty, so when you're replacing your air conditioner, keep this in mind. An extended warranty will cover everything that's under the basic warranty and, in addition, will give an extended amount of time on all of the components, as well as serviceability. Again, each company warranty will vary, but this is usually double the amount of time that's given on the original, basic warranty.
