buying a new air conditioner, Butler County, OhioAre you considering buying a new air conditioner? In early 2013, the federal government made upgrading your HVAC system more appealing with the extension of 25C tax credits for highly-efficient water heating and HVAC equipment, including newly installed air conditioning units.

From now until Dec. 31, 2013, Cincinnati homeowners can get as much as a $300 tax credit for purchasing and installing one of the following high-efficiency air conditioning units:

  • Split system central air conditioners ranked as a CEE (Consortium for Energy Efficiency) Tier III
  • Packaged central air conditioners ranked as a CEE Tier III

In order to collect your tax credit, you will need to file the IRS form 5695 with your 2013 taxes. Remember to keep a copy of the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement listing the unit’s high efficiency rating and any receipts or itemized bills from the installation process.

While installing a high-efficiency air conditioner will provide you with short-term rebate potential, over time you'll appreciate the new installation’s superior lifetime value. High-efficiency air conditioners aren't only great for the environment, but their better use of energy leads to consistently lower energy bills.

High-efficiency air conditioner units take advantage of integrated technology that utilizes energy more efficiently with features like variable-speed handlers, two-stage compressors and better manufactured coils and motors. Switching from an older and lower efficiency unit to one of the new standard high-efficiency A/Cs can save you as much as 20 percent on your home’s utility bills. Combine this with the federal rebate offer when buying a new air conditioner and the upgrade will shortly pay for itself.
